Bits and Pieces

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a....foot?
Yesterday Baby T was practicing being an acrobat. My stomach was changing shapes and I could feel him moving a ton. At one point I think he put all four limbs in opposite directions and pushed all at once. It looked extremely strange on the outside whatever he was doing. But even more impressive, I think he jabbed me with a foot or fist. My stomach stretched and you could tell he was pushing really hard and a little lump appeared on the outside. It kind of hurt but it stayed there for a few seconds before my stomach went back to "normal". Crazy kid :)

Fasting + Pregnancy = Grumpy
For the millionth time today (at least thats what it seems like lately) I had to fast in order to get blood work done. I think in my entire life I had to fast about 2 times before I was pregnant. Since I've been pregnant I'm up to at least 5 times. Don't doctors understand how bad of an idea this is? I mean, come on, I'm growing a child here, I need food!!!

Movin' on Up!
This is week 29 and that means a bunch. First, Baby T is the size of squash this month. I'm in month 7 of the pregnancy. I'm almost 3/4 of the way there! During the month of the squash, the baby should go from about 2 1/2 pounds to almost 4 pounds! Length wise he'll only grow about an inch or so and be somewhere around 17 inches by the end of the month. His energy is supposedly surging and I feel like I'm headed back to the first trimester world of exhaustion. Oh well!

Can you say nesting?

Everyone keeps kidding me about "nesting"...well it's definitely hit. As I look around the house there are a million things I want to get done before the baby arrives. This week I focused on the nursery. The rest of the house is a mess, but Baby T's room is really coming along. I spent this week sorting through things, washing all the clothes, sheets, blankets, and finding homes for different things up there. The bedding is on and it makes it look so cozy in there. I sit in there all of the time :) With the exception of a few things in the closet, everything non-baby is out of that room finally and Baby T's things are mostly put away. I only have one more bag of baby shower things to go through. Every room I am in I think of something that needs to be done. I even started cleaning out the kitchen cabinets today in order to make room for bottles, formula, food, etc. I hate cleaning out kitchen cabinets, so this is how I knew "nesting" was real, hah. Grad class work is taking a back seat to all of this baby stuff and so is decorating for Christmas. We might go without a tree this year, still undecided. I know there is still a lot of time before Baby T arrives, but like I said, every room I look at there is something I want to get done. As long as my grad class gets done, it'll be all good, and Christmas will come and be great regardless if we have a tree or not. Who knows though, maybe the spirit will hit me in a few more weeks. A benefit to nesting is that the house will get a really good cleaning and I'm getting rid of things without thinking twice. I feel like we 'clean out' often but we have so much stuff! I might be baby crazy right now, but it's enjoyable at least :)

On a side note, I feel like a complete fool....I just realized this blogger has spellcheck. What is wrong with me?? I've been using this since June! Geez.

Yay Laundry!

I never thought I would say this, but I was actually excited to do laundry last night and tonight. I started washing baby clothes and they are so stinkin' cute that its actually exciting to do the wash. Although, I'm sure this feeling will pass shortly after Baby T arrives. I did one load last night, then Zach and I folded all his little clothes and sorted it. Tonight is load number two, then I'll put them all away! Here's my only dilemma, what do I hang and what do I put in drawers? I guess it doesn't really matter and I'll figure it out. Knuckles has taken it upon himself to inspect every piece of clothing, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't start chewing things again. I put everything out of his reach for now just to be safe. Scooter on the other hand wants nothing to do with baby stuff and would rather just lay in the nursery "overseeing" everything that is going on. Works for me!

Baby Shower!

Thanks to all our family and friends for a great baby shower today! Baby T is lucky to have all of these awesome people in his life already. The afternoon seemed to fly by but I had a really good time and hope everyone there did also. Baby T has so many cute outfits! I sorted everything that needs to be washed and will start to fill his drawers and closet after its all clean. I must say, baby clothes are absolutely adorable! :) The baby is pretty much all set with the big stuff. I spent part of the night organizing everything into categories and then I can focus on figuring out where to put it all. Right now the nursery is covered with things. I sat up there for a while today and got a little bit done, but its going to take several nights of working before its all put away. I did go through all of the books and enjoyed reading everyones messages to Baby T and seeing books I haven't read since I was little. They are all on a shelf already next to the glider so we're set. I really enjoyed just sitting in the nursery before, but now I don't want to leave that room :) The more I organize I'll start to take pictures so everyone can see. After everything is put away I can start decorating too. Now that we have the bedding it'll be easier to figure out what we want to do. I can't believe in 3 short months Baby T will be here. Can you tell I'm excited?!? Zach spent some of the evening walking around with the video camera testing it out. Hopefully after Baby T arrives I can figure out how to upload videos to the blog and continue to keep everyone updated with videos of our little guy. I'm beat and am going to bed early tonight. Thank you again to everyone who had a part in our shower today, we really appreciate everything! :)

Success!!!

Just got the call, I passed my 3 hour glucose test! Boo-yah! Time to enjoy what I eat again, with moderation of course :) I don't know numbers, but they said results came back normal and thats good enough for me!

longest. morning. ever.

A little over 4 hours later and I'm done! 3 hour glucose tolerance test is really a 4 hour ordeal but its finished, and regardless of these results I won't have to do it again. Here's an overview of what happened today: After I checked in I waited about 10 minutes and had my first blood sample drawn. Then I had to wait about 30 minutes for the lab to get those results back and they gave me a double dose of the same sugar drink from last time. Only this time it was orange flavored and there was a hole in the cup, so I had sugary orange drink all over my jacket and a little on me. I got a new cup, finished the drink in my 5 minute limit and the timer was set. At 10:15, 11:15, and 12:15 I had my blood drawn three more times. In the midst of waiting around I talked to a smelly lady, wandered around the hospital, visited the restroom several times, read a book, looked through a Rachel Ray magazine, and did some Suduko puzzles. I wasn't too smart for bringing a food magazine, I was starving and couldn't eat. Didn't help that there was a little cafe right outside of the lab waiting room that I couldn't visit either. I learned I don't have great veins today. The first blood draw was fine, second time they used the other arm, third time was a disaster. They poked and poked, it hurt, and in the end they couldn't get blood from that arm. So to the other arm she went and it was less painful but still very bruised. Final time wasn't too bad, but I'll make sure I wear long sleeves for the next day or so to cover the bruises. At 12:30 I made it back home and promptly drank a glass of water and ate lunch! Now I'm ready for a nap. In the end though, if it helps Baby T and makes sure that we're both healthy and doing well then I'd do it again. Now keep your fingers crossed that the results come back okay. My goals were 95 or lower, 180 or lower, 160 or lower, and then 140 or lower. I can fail one of the four and still be conisdered okay. Time to wait some more...

Third Trimester

This week starts the third trimester, woo hoo! That means only about 3 more months until Baby T arrives! A few things to look forward to during this last part of the pregnancy: childbirth classes, finishing the nursery, hopefully passing my glucose test, starting to buy diapers, baby clothes, and all of that fun stuff, putting together a lot more baby things, and hopefully resting before Baby T's arrival! Of course, the most exciting part is after this trimester is over the baby will be here! At some point during these next 13 weeks we need to pick a name too. It's a lot harder than I would have thought, but I know we'll find just the right one soon enough. Below is the comparison between how I looked at the start of the second trimester (15 weeks) to now (almost 27 weeks). Whoa! I can't imagine what my belly will look like in another 3 months :)

18 Pounds and Counting

I had my 26 week appointment yesterday. Apparently I gained 5.5 pounds in a month, which is a bit on the hefty side, but I'm only at a total of 18 pounds so the doctor says I'm pretty much right on track. She looked at my belly and realized most of the weight is right where its suppose to be, so I'm not really that concerned. Tomorrow starts my two day carb diet, which may increase the pounds anyway. Everything else looked/sounded good. My belly is measuring 27 cm, so Baby T should be doing good in there. His heartbeat sounded good and my iron counts and blood pressure were awesome. So overall, a good check-up. Next week is the big week of the 3-hour glucose test and that's the next hurdle to cross. Wish me luck!

Double Digits!!!

Tomorrow I'm officially in double digits for the countdown to Baby T! Today is 100 days until his estimated arrival and tomorrow.....99! The little guy will be here before we know it. I'm getting really impatient with all of the nursery progress and putting together baby stuff. I'm sure it'll go fast, heck 99 days is nothing :)

Take a deep breath...

One more week and I'm officially into the third trimester, can you believe it?!?! Let's hope the third trimester is pretty easy going, I'm not sure what to expect. I'm heading back to irritable land again, not sure if its because I have too much going on right now or just my hormones being mean, but boy oh boy was it a rough day at the grocery store. I'm a weirdo and don't usually mind the grocery store, but today everything seemed to make me mad. People fly around that store with their big ol' carts like there is no one else there OR they just stand right in the middle of the isle looking at something on the shelf and blocking the whole isle. There should be a class on grocery store etiquette and possibly a cart driving course. It took everything I had today to not open my mouth and say something (I know what you're thinking, I usually don't have this problem and keep my thoughts and feelings to myself...however I think at one point I did open my mouth, but luckily no words came out, whew!). So in the end I behaved and accomplished my goals and now we have food for the week. I'm hoping next week is less eventful and more peaceful. Anyway, I'm hoping this isn't how I'm going to be for the rest of the pregnancy, I do notice myself saying thoughts out loud lately that I would normally keep to myself. Let's hope I don't offend anyone and if I do, can I just play the P card?? :) I just ate a wonderful dinner of spaghetti and my moms meatballs, mmm mmm good. That made everything better! Time to do more work for school. I'm outttta here! (I miss baseball already...only 80-some more days! hah)

Fail.

No news is good news, so when I had a voicemail from the doctor today I knew it was no good. Apparently to pass the gestational diabetes test your results need to be below 140, well mine was 143. Seriously? I missed it by 3!?!? All because of those 3 little numbers I have to go back to do the 3 hour version. Not cool. On top of all that I have to take a day off of work to have it done. I'm hoping since my results for this test were so close to passing that I should be fine for the next one, but I'm still not looking forward to it. The doctor said they'll send me the specifics, but basically I'll follow a special diet for two days prior to the test, fast for 12 hours the night before, go get my blood taken, drink more sugary drink, and then get my blood taken again every hour for 3 hours. So November 17th I have a date with the lab, until then I guess I should watch what I eat? Not sure, they didn't really say I need to change anything for right now, but I'll still try to cut back on sweets and carbs - all the good stuff! Blah.

My "little" Eggplant

Well, I'm in month 6! Holy cow, seems like just yesterday I was still puking and excited that Baby T was the size of a blueberry! Now that I'm in week 25 Baby T has graduated to the next fruit/veggie and he is approximately the size of an eggplant for this entire month. To celebrate the occasion I walked past the eggplants this afternoon at the grocery store and thought, wow thats my baby boy. This puts me only 3 months away from the dreaded watermelon! I'm having flashbacks of my insane-ness from this summer. In all seriousness though, eggplants are pretty big and Baby T is approximately 13-14 inches in length this month and will go from about 1.5 to 2.2 pounds in just four short weeks. I can tell he is getting bigger because I am feeling him kick/move everyday. I usually never feel him at work, but since today was a long, boring day of meetings and nonsense I actually felt him move several times during the day. (Usually after I ate candy to keep me from falling asleep at my seat) It's all so real now...surprising it took this long, haha. The crib really did it for me and makes me smile every time I go by that room :)

Goodbye Guestroom, Hello Nursery!

Well we've been busy this weekend. Friday night the extra bedroom was empty with white walls, today its the nursery! We finished all the painting and put together the furniture (with the help of Mike) and it really is the nursery now! I'll admit, with my hormones raging, I am getting a bit emotional about it all. I'm so excited and I just want to hang out in that room. The two different colors of paint look just about the same at night, but in the sunlight you can tell the difference. The crib and dresser look awesome, although the dresser is missing the knobs - they forgot to send them in the box and hopefully they can mail them out pretty soon. But I'm really happy with how things have turned out so far. Now I can focus on decorating, we're thinking geometric decals on the wall maybe, then we'll need curtains and I think I'm going to tie the wardrobe in with a curtain as the "door" to the closet part. We'll see, lots of time still to work on all of that. Baby T is kicking as I type this, I think he likes it already :)
