Rewind Please

I would have swore (oh wait, I did swear a bunch) tonight was a full moon or something the way my children were acting.   The day started out okay - Luke actually slept in past 6 am (that hardly ever happens anymore - the kid is an early bird much to his mamas dismay), Lauren went to the doctor and had a good check up, the weather wasn't horribly gross anymore.  Good stuff.  Lauren went from a tiny 7 lb at birth to 9 lb 9.5 oz today!  What a little lady, 30th percentile to 75th!  Then we came home, Luke fought his nap but eventually took one.  We had plans to go get a sit and stand stroller and stop by the pharmacy for some prescriptions.  Not big plans but it sure does take a lot of work to get us all out of the house together.

5:30 we were in the car, ready to go.  Our trip started like this:
Lauren immediately started screaming.  Luke turns to her and yells at her to stop screaming.  Then Luke sees an airplane, completely distracted, life is good again.
We get on the highway and Luke starts screaming NOOOO MOOOOMMMMMMYYYYY, go THIS way (pointing the opposite direction of what we were traveling)  I try to reason with a 2 year old (stupid me) and tell him why we have to go this way.  Daddy does a better job and points out all the big trucks on the highway (1 point for daddy).

5:45 we get to the store and the parking lot is closed, being paved.  I'm slightly annoyed because it took me so much work to get them all fed and out the door before Lauren would need to eat again.  I'm afraid the store is closed, but its not we just have to park out back.  No biggie, whatever.  Of course they are completely sold out of what we came to buy, check to see they are getting a shipment tomorrow, but can't be bothered to actually set one aside for us and tell us to just try back another time.  Customer service sucks there.

6:00 back in the car headed to the pharmacy.  Lauren screaming again (and half of our time in the store as well).  Luke repeating over and over and over how much he wants ice cream and occasionally telling Lauren to be quiet.

6:10 At the pharmacy - as soon as I put the car in park Lauren starts screaming some more.  We decide I will take Luke inside with me and Zach will hold Lauren in the car.  Divide and conquer method always works right?  I walk up to the pharmacy door and there is a sign stating they are unable to receive and fill prescriptions.  Excuse me?!?  You ARE a pharmacy right?  That's ALL you have to do.  I was able to pick up a prescription that was already filled another day and a container of bubbles to refill a toy for Luke.

Minutes later back to the car.  Luke wants us to open his bubbles and melts down when we tell him we don't do bubbles in the car.  Lauren gets back in her car seat and screams again because its obvious at this point she hates it.  So its been almost an hour since we left and we have accomplished NOTHING!  Lauren screams the entire way home, Luke screams because he can't have bubbles, then spends the rest of the ride screaming at his sister to stop screaming.  Zach and I are in the front seat defeated.  We got home and some more 2 year old melt downs continued.  Nice little Wednesday night family outing.

Rewind please.

1 Month Old

My baby is now one month old.  Crazy how fast it went.  Here's a little bit about Lauren right now:

She eats every 2-3 hours during the day and does 3-4 hour stretches at night.
She loves to sleep in your arms as opposed to the bassinet.
She refuses to take any type of pacifier. (not sold on this as a good or bad thing yet...)
She is almost completely out of newborn clothes and moving into 3 months.
She is having more and more alert time and loves starring at your face.
She is getting fussier and fussier after feedings so I'm changing my diet around to see if that helps.
She has been introduced to Knuckles and they seem to be pretty fond of each other.
She gets smothered with kisses from her big brother every day :)

We're all in love with her!  Yesterday on her '1 month birthday' we did a little photo shoot.  We got some really cute ones of her, some really cute ones of Luke, and no cute ones of the two of them together.  Maybe next time!

Week 2

I left the house with both kids by myself this week.  No one lost their cool, including me.  Awesome, I know.  However, we only walked down the street and back.  Baby steps here.

Luke is slowly adjusting.  Week 2 was better than week 1, I'll take any progress I can get.

Last night Lauren and I escaped for a few hours.  It is so hard to leave the house at all anymore but worthwhile.

The kids are on complete opposite schedules - this leaves for a very tired mommy and no time to get anything done.  However, it does allow me to spend quality time with each of them, so I'll take it.  Luckily Luke loves to help me clean so at least the house isn't a complete disaster.

Zach hung up a swing for Luke in the backyard last weekend - he loves it!

Sickness is running around our house - last week Luke had some weird fever and no appetite.  Now I am getting the bug, boo!  Let's hope its nothing major for any of us and Lauren can stay healthy.  For hardly leaving the house I'm amazed that Luke and I both caught something.

Macaroni is our picture word - after Luke says it we get something like this if we're lucky :)

Week 1

Two kids.  A two week old.  A two year old.  One mommy. Week 1.

I have been a stay at home mommy with our two kids for 1 whole week now.  Everyone told me things would be busy, there would be adjustments, it could be difficult but wow, this is tough.  I have no idea what I thought was so difficult about having one child.  My last maternity leave was a breeze compared to this so far, even with a little guy who had horrible reflux.  Lauren is a super easy baby, she goes with the flow and only cries when she is really hungry or has gas.  She likes to be held and sleeps most of the day still.  When she is awake she just hangs out, looks around, and soaks in her new world.  Luke has been having a difficult transition.  Some behaviors are regressing, some new behaviors are arising, and he just doesn't want to share his mommy yet.  Although, he does seem to love his little sister most of the time.  I think he'll come around, its still all pretty new to him, and hopefully it doesn't take him too long to realize that his new family of four is pretty awesome.  When he and I get some "mommy and Luke" time he is just awesome, so I know he is just craving that one on one.  I've been busy trying to figure out a balance between the two kids, a schedule that works for us now that I'm home, and a little time for myself to maintain my sanity.

So I haven't forgotten about this blog and enough has been happening lately to write tons of posts, but honestly, I have no time.  I'll try to do better, don't give up on me :)
