Boy have we been busy lately. Saturday night Luke went to his first party and he did great! Apparently he doesn't mind being around a lot of noise and people, which is awesome. Unfortunately it didn't tucker him out though and with losing an hour of sleep, Saturday night/Sunday morning was rough.
More good news, I FINALLY wore pants that have a zipper!!! Maternity pants are super comfy and great when you're pregnant but very depressing to put on after the baby has arrived. So this weekend I found a pair of jeans that were on sale, had a zipper, real pockets and no big elastic panel....it was heavenly! I must say dressing myself now is a bit strange, I was so used to all of the maternity clothes that I'm having trouble picking out stuff to wear. I got the okay to start exercising again this week from my doctor so now the challenge is on....back to pre-pregnacy size (or close to it) in 6 weeks??? Let's see what I can do...
Finally this weekend Luke went on his first long car ride to Mom's and Pop's for a visit. He did great and fell asleep as soon as we hit the highway. I was a little nervous taking him that far by myself, he showed me its all good though. It's tough packing for an entire day with an infant, but we both survived.

1 Month!
Luke is 1 month old today! He's spending the morning bouncing away and checking out all the things around him. These 28 days have been filled with so many different emotions, adventures, trials, and a lot of learning. Here's a few thoughts to summarize this month:
Being a mom makes me smile.
The longest stretch of sleep I've had this month is 3 hours on a good night, normally an hour and a half.
Pacifiers are amazing, we waited until 2 weeks to introduce him to one but he likes it and I love it!
It's crazy how many diapers you actually go through in a week, who would have thought such a little guy would be so busy!
Hunger hits Luke like a bomb, one second hes asleep and peaceful, next second hes screaming and ready to eat.
Breastfeeding is difficult, worthwhile but difficult.
When nothing else works, take Luke on a car ride on the highway to ease his crying (back roads just make him cry more).
When Luke sleeps either sleep or get stuff done....time to go!

Bath Night
Luke finally lost his umbilical cord last week, his belly button has healed completely and looks normal now, so that means it was time for a real bath! No more sponge baths for this kid, we put him in the water tonight. Everyone told me how much babies like to relax in the tub, well not our kid apparently. He seemed extremely uncomfortable with the whole situation and peed soon after we put him in (which actually seemed to relax him a little). He didn't cry the whole time but just didn't seem to enjoy it. After the bath I thought I would give him a little massage as I put some lotion on his legs and back but it turns out he hated that even more. Poor guy had a tomato red face and little teeny tears accompanied by a lot of crying after the whole ordeal was over. Oh well, maybe next time will be better.

On a different note he's getting so big! We tried to put his little newborn onesies on tonight for bedtime and they don't fit! He's moving on up to the next size onesies, which are a little long still but much more comfortable. Didn't take him too long to move on to a new size, now we have a few new things to choose from when we get dressed, yay!

Weekends, I adore you!
I used to love the weekends because it meant no work, it meant sleeping in, it meant time to hang out with family and friends, and it meant relaxation. Now I love the weekend for even more reasons. Even though I'm not working right now and sleeping in is no longer part of my life, I still really look forward to the weekend because now it means family time. This was the first weekend Zach, Luke and I had to ourselves and it was great! Friday night I got a little bit of me time and I went grocery shopping. As weird as this may sound I actually enjoy grocery shopping and it was nice to get out of the house for a little by myself. Also, shopping around 6 pm on a Friday night is excellent, no one else is there! Saturday was filled with a Target and Best Buy run, naps in the afternoon, and movie night. Today was low key, laying around the house, going for a walk in this awesome weather, and just hanging out together. Overall, this weekend gets an A+....now if only they lasted longer than 2 days.

Macho Man!
Spring Training

Are you ready for some BASEBALL!?!?! I am!! I'm so excited that it is almost baseball season. Spring training games start this week and only about a month until the actual season begins. Let's go Phillies!
Baseball season also signals that spring weather should be coming soon. Looking forward to being able to spend some time outside with Luke, opening the windows, and just enjoying the fresh air!

Full Moon
When teaching I hate full moons because its almost a guarantee that the students will be crazy or off. Well Luke is having a heck of a time sleeping tonight, pretty much isn't sleeping at all yet. As I'm half awake wandering downstairs to feed him I looked outside and realized the issue - the moon!
No matter what we tried last night Luke just wouldn't sleep. The longest stretch of sleep I got was about 25 minutes. As soon as he would seem to be ready to be put down, he'd last 20 minutes and start whaling. It was insane, even the very calm, soothing voice of Sigourney Weaver from Planet Earth didn't sooth Luke or me in the wee hours of the morning. Poor kid was miserable and so were we. Some of you may think I'm nuts saying "how could the moon really have this much of an effect??" but spend a day with 7th graders on a full moon and you'll be completely convinced. Here's hoping tonight will go better and that moon will start to shrink!
